Rainy day blues

Anders woke up grumpy this morning. I'm hoping it's the bulging molars in his mouth, and that they'll break through soon. It is always a good indication of how happy he normally is. His favorite things right now: playing outside, and playing on mom and dad's bed. He said his first 2 word phrase the other day (13 months)-- ah beh (translated: on bed). I continue to be amazed at his communication and understanding. Last night we were lying in Erik's bed before bedtime, and Erik asked me to sleep on his cow pillow. Anders sat up, pointed to the floor by the foot of the bed, and said "oooooooo ooooooo". Sure enough, the big stuffed cow sat down there.

Erik seems to be taking a break from obsession with all things numbers and letters. Oh, he still enjoys them, but he seems to be (finally) pursuing other interests. I think it correlates to when he really GOT reading. It's not so urgent that he know all about letters anymore, now that he can read well. And he likes numbers still, but in different contexts--we don't have to count to 100 everytime we take a breath. Of course, he's still obsessed. Could he be any different? Right now, his obsessions are Veggie Tales and balloons. Mostly Veggie Tales. Everything can become a Veggie Tales character. He builds Veggie Tales out of legos. He uses random objects to represent. We have a stuffed Bob the Tomato, and interestingly enough, he is seldom used. Erik prefers to make his own representation of Bob.

We went to a baseball game yesterday, the first game of the season for Erik and Anders. Erik had a great time. He loved for us to tell him each player who was batting--and the player's number--and describe the whole game for him. What a change from last year in his attention level. I can see how he will love baseball like I do--for the statistics, the detail, the order. Anders loved the game, too. He got so excited when everyone cheered, and he clapped along to all the music. He did get frustrated with having to sit still after awhile. We made it through the 5th inning, which to us was amazing. And the A's won. A great day for our family.
