Erik is 7!

I forgot to take a picture of the traditional pancake-in-the-shape-of-your-age birthday pancake, but as you can see, Erik enjoyed it!

Erik really wanted his birthday party to be on his birthday this year. So we invited his classmates to his party after school. We walked home, making it our first parents-optional party! 12 of his classmates came (along with, thankfully, 4 parents for the walk, and 2 who stayed for the whole party).

Erik is very into money right now (a numismatist, he says). So while he had originally wanted a human body party, we decided to go with money. Carl, Anders, and I hid play coins and wrote money jokes on our way to get the kids from school.

The kids loved the hunt, and made it to our house faster than I ever imagined they would.

We started by putting together "coin" pizzas (hey, they were round!) with English muffins and toppings of choice. Then, while the pizzas cooked, the kids played some games in the gym.

They started getting quite active at this point--a little frustrating to Erik, who wanted everyone to do the games his way. We switched to craft time, which helped calm everyone down, making coin banks and coloring pictures of coins.

After they finished the art, they went back into the gym for more play--this time, of the free play variety. There was a lot of energy in that room! Then we had cake and ice cream, opened presents, and the kids got to play until they were picked up.

but mostly saved them for later in the week, as he was on a bit of birthday overload by that point!
