He has a good grasp of beginning phonics, now--presented with two words and a request to show him one, he can do it by listening to the first sound of the word and picking the word that starts with that letter. He can sound out a few basic words. He is asking constantly what signs say when we're out, and he is obsessed with knowing the titles of books, and which word on the title is which.
It is such a different way than Erik learned to read. Erik is still primarily a sight word reader, and considering that he reads at a very high level, he has an amazing number of sight words in his vocabulary. Anders is definitely going to learn by phonics, probably in the way that is "trendy" right now (with the most common words learned as sight words, relying on phonics for the rest/easy to sound out words.) In general, though, I didn't get to watch Erik learn to read, since it kind of just happened. Watching Anders put some of the pieces together is so fun.
And here is Erik with a clay creation. That's a map of some world he was inventing.
